SEVENTEEN comprises three sub-units: Dino, The8, Jun, and Hoshi, who form the performance team. While he is known to the world as Dino, his real name is Lee Chan. The youngest of the 13 members, Dino, hails from Namjung-dong in Iksan, South Korea.

Dino is renowned for his superb choreography, famously known as ‘Dino’s Danceology’. He has performed to popular tracks such as Travis Scott’s ‘Sicko Mode’ and Charlie Puth’s ‘Cheating on You’, in addition to his own songs. In 2023, he ventured into singing with his first solo mixtape, ‘Wait’; in 2024, he became the presenter of Tokyo FM’s ‘School of Lock’.

Located in Jeollabuk Province, Iksan is a relatively young city formed in 1995 by merging Iri City and Iksan County. It is also known as ‘The City of Jewellery’ for its thriving domestic jewellery and precious stones industry, attracting individuals to Iksan to purchase these exceptional gems.

How to reach: Gunsan Airport is the nearest, approximately 37 kilometres from Dino’s birthplace. The city is home to Iksan Station, the province’s major railway hub.

Learn about the past at the Iksan National Museum

Formerly known as the Mireuksaji National Museum, it encompasses the UNESCO-listed Mireuksa Temple and a vast complex displaying artefacts from the Baekje dynasty through both permanent and temporary exhibitions. Mireuksa Temple was the largest Buddhist temple of the Baekje Kingdom, symbolising the architectural and cultural prowess of the era with the Mireuksaji Seoktap (the stone pagoda) and Mireuksaji Dangganjiju (the flagpole).

Timings: 9 am to 6 pm on weekdays and 9 am to 7 pm on weekdays.

Housing the UNESCO-listed Wanggung-ri Pagoda, the Baekje Royal Palace Museum narrates the palace’s construction and transformation into a revered temple of the dynasty. The museum holds the remnants of the palace along with all its treasures and the precious relics from the pagoda that was built in its place.

K-drama fans can visit an actual film set in Iksan! It is known as the first and only prison set in South Korea, and many shows filmed their prison sequences here. K-dramas like Inside Men, Miracle in Cell No 7, The Legendary Witch, and the American Netflix show Sense8 were filmed here.

Travellers can learn about South Korea’s jewellery and shop for the best gems at the Jewel Palace, where 60 domestic and foreign brands display high-quality jewellery and stones.
